ABERDEEN, UK – The jackup Maersk Guardian has spudded the Clapton prospect exploration well in the southern Norwegian North Sea for Faroe Petroleum.
Well 2/8-18 S is Faroe’s first as an operatoroffshore Norway. The location is in license PL440 S in block 2/8, 5 km (3.1 mi) east of the Eldfisk East field, and 10 km (6.2 mi) north of the Valhall field.
Clapton is a chalk prospect on the flanks of the salt-induced Mode Dome. The well will target the Ekofisk, Tor, and Hod formations, the main producing reservoirs in the neighboring fields.
Partner Lundin Petroleum (NASDAQ:LUPE) says prospective resources could be 65 MMboe. Drilling should last about 60 days.
