DNV increases Arctic focus, acquires Norwegian Petro Services

Offshore staff

HØVIK, Norway – DNV has acquired oil spill preparedness company Norwegian Petro Services (NPS). DNV plans to open an office in Harstad, Norway, to provide advisory and verification services to the oil and gas industry with operations in the Arctic.

Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, DNV’s COO of the Norway, Russia and Finland division, said: “Both the industry and society focus heavily on reducing the environmental effects of operations in Arctic areas such as the Barents Sea. DNV wants to contribute to this, and the acquisition of NPS is an important strategic move in that sense.

“We are now combining DNV’s environmental risk and oil spill preparedness analyses with NPS’s specialist expertise in planning and organizing oil spill preparedness. This provides a complete service portfolio to our customers.”

Industry shows renewed interest in float-over installation-full

Oct 17, 2014

Float-over installation has become an attractive alternative to heavy-lift crane installation for offshore construction, as increasing size and weight of offshore platform topsides continually exceed the lifting capacity of cranes. Dockwise Ltd. analyzed topsides installation trends from 2005 to 2012, and found that the demand for cost-effective and more flexible alternatives to crane installations has been the driving force behind float-over installation using semisubmersible heavy transport vessels.
