WELLINGTON, New Zealand –New Zealand Oil and Gas (NZOG)has assumed operatorship of the PEP 38259 permit offshore New Zealand.

Seismic reprocessing is under way to improve definition and evaluation of the Barque prospect, the crest of which is in around 800 m (2,624 ft) water depth off the coast of North Otago in the Canterbury basin.

NZOG and partners AWE and Beach Energy expect to drill the planned Barque commitment well, but rig availability for this and other deepwater wells off New Zealand operations is currently uncertain.
