ABERDEEN, UK – Centrica Resources Norge has started drilling the Cooper prospect in the Norwegian Sea, using the semisub West Alpha.
The well is being drilled on license PL477 in block 6506/11 on the Halten Terrace between the Smørbukk oil field, to the east, and the Morvin oil field, to the west.
According to Centrica’s partner Faroe Petroleum, Cooper comprises an untested north to south trending fault block. The main reservoir objectives are the same Mid-Jurassic Garn and Ile formations that house the main producing reservoirs in Smørbukk and Morvin.
Cooper is close to other undeveloped discoveries including Fogelberg and Maria.
Faroe is preparing to spud another well as operator on the Clapton structure in the Norwegian North Sea.
Norwegian independent Spring Energy has agreed to take on Wintershall’s 60% operated interest in licenses PL 551 and PL 550. Separately, the company is set to assume Talisman Energy’s 20% stake in PL 551, with Det norske oljeselskap taking a 20% interest. The two licenses are northwest and northeast of the Troll oil and gas field.
Spring plans to drill its first well as operator next year on PL 551.
