EAST KILBRIDE, UKApache North Sea has contracted NEL for turbine meter calibration on the two Beryl platforms in the UK North Sea, which it acquired from ExxonMobil in January.

NEL will develop a calibration program for the 17 turbine meters to maintain accuracy of oil volume measurements to maximize profitability and comply with the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change regulations.

The online database will allow Apache to monitor the real-time status of the meters being calibrated at all times, facilitating immediate meter management decisions for improved production efficiency.

Brian Law, metering technical authority for Apache NNS, said: “These fields are quality reservoirs with high production levels, so meter calibration accuracy is essential to the profitability of the business. It is also a complex process, as each meter type has different regulations according to its use, whether that it is for fiscal or processing purposes.”
