MILAN, Italy – Eni’s (MI:ENI, NYSE:E) deepwater Nunya-1x exploration well off Ghana encountered water-bearing sandstone reservoirs.
According to partner Afren, the well in the Keta block, drilled by the semisubMarianas, was targeting a four-way dip closed Upper Cretaceous prospect.
The well was drilled in a water depth of 1,687 m (5,535 ft) to a TD of 4,550 m (14,928 ft).
Afren CEO Osman Shahenshah said this was the firstwell to test the Upper Cretaceous play on the block.
“As such it has provided important data with which to calibrate and further enhance our understanding of this under-explored block in what still remains a very high potential basin,” he said.
Independently Afren has spudded the Ebok North Fault block exploration well offshore Nigeria which is currently drilling ahead.
