UK yard completes rig upgrade programs

BARRY, UK – Harris Pye has completed a comprehensive refit and refurbishment of the Diamond Offshore Drilling drillship Ocean Clipper. Work was completed in 90 days.

The scope included electrical works, accommodation, painting, cranes, 250 metric tons (275 tons) of steelwork, renewal of more than 2 mi (3,219 m) of piping, and removal and replacement of transformers and motors.

Simultaneously, Harris Pye also completed a program on the Maersk Discoverer that was performed during the rig’s tow from South Africa to Egypt.

This involved electrical work, rigging of heavy pipes into difficult positions, and fully welding in situ.
