STAVANGER, Norway – Hydratight has repaired a damaged pipe on a subsea manifold linked to Statoil’s Troll C oil and gas platform in the Norwegian North Sea.
A mandrel and its supporting pipe were pulled out of position during an operation, overloading the pipe. This necessitated shut-down of an associated 10-in. (25.4-cm) line, halting production.
Statoil commissioned Hydratight to supply a 6-in. (15.2-cm) super duplex Morgrip end-connector to fit within the physical constraints of the damaged manifold, 340 m (1,115 ft) subsea. This sealed the line, as required. Pipe integrity was retained with no de-rating of the pipeline or deviation from the original design.
The pipe – which carries a mixture of water, oil, and gas – was pressure-tested to 267 bar (3,872 psi) after the procedure, and will be tested again periodically to ensure no further deteriorated has occurred.
