OSLO, Norway – Norwegian Energy Co. (Noreco) has completed a dry-hole wildcat on the Eik structure in the Barents Sea.
Well 7228/1-1 was drilled by theTransoceanBarents in 352 m (1,155 ft) of water in license 396, 290 km (180 mi) northeast of Hammerfest and 50 km (31 mi) east of the 7226/2-1 discovery.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the well targeted petroleum primarily in Jurassic and Triassic reservoir rocks (the Realgrunnen subgroup).
This was the first well on the concession, awarded in 2006 under Norway’s 19th licensing round.
Transocean Barents now heads south to the North Sea to drill production wells on the Jette field for Det norske oljeselskap.
Another operator, Centrica Resources, has permission from NPD to drill well 6506/11-9 S in PL 477 in the Norwegian Sea, using the semisubWest Alpha, after the rig has completed its current well for RWE Dea in PL 435.
Centrica’s well will be drilled around 7 km (4.3 mi) east of the Morvin field. Again, this is the first well on the license, which was granted in February 2008 under the APA 2007 round.
