IJMuiden, the Netherlands – Offshore Solutions, the joint venture between AMEC and Cofely Nederland, has completed more than 40,000 safe personnel transfers from vessel to offshore platform using its heave- compensated Offshore Access System (OAS), currently working in the Middle East.
The company has also secured two new contracts from major operators in Qatar for transfer of personnel to and from offshore platforms, bringing the total of OAS units operating in the region to three.
The OAS allows operational efficiency to be maintained, particularly during the adverse weather conditions Qatar experiences over the winter months. This can restrict the capability to transfer personnel to an offshore installation by helicopter or boat landing.
Offshore Solutions claims this is the sole heave-compensated gangway that can remain permanently connected to an offshore installation in sea states of up to 3 m (9.8 ft) significant wave height.
The company has been operating off Qatar since 2010, and has registered a branch office in the country.
