HOUSTON– Shell has issued an update on the oil sheen spotted in the Gulf of Mexico, between the Mars and Ursa production area.
Following first news of the incident on Wednesday, the company says it notified the National Response Center (NRC), activated theLouisiana Responder, an oil spill response vessel (OSRV), and deployed two ROVs to inspect Shell and non-Shell infrastructure and search for potential naturally-occurring seeps in the area.
According to Shell, operations in the area are normal with no sign of leaks, and there are no well control issues associated with the company’s drilling operations in the area.
Investigations continue to determine the cause and nature of the sheen, which is estimated to be 6 bbl. Over flights continue as weather conditions permit.
