SOLA, Norway – IKM is providing technical services for Petrofac / Kencana’s newly built wellhead platform for the Berantai field offshore Malaysia.

Berantai is in block PM 309 in the Malaysian sector of the South China Sea, 195 km (121 mi) from the Kemaman supply base, offshore Terengganu Malaysia. The platform will support drilling of 18 wells.

IKM’s scope includes project engineering, controlled bolt tightening (flange management), nitrogen/helium leak test and KAMOS gasket integrity tests. Equipment will be mobilized this month to the Kencana yard in Kemaman, Malaysia and work should be completed by June.

In Europe, IKM’s subsea has secured a five-year frame agreement to supply Statoil for ROV services from rigs and vessels in the North Sea. There are options to extend the duration by up to five more years.

Statoil has awarded another division, IKM Ocean Design, a front-end engineering and design contract for the pipeline for the Aasta Hansteen deepwater development in the Norwegian Sea, with an option for detailed engineering.

There will be similar FEED programs for the subsea templates for Aasat Hansteen and satellite prospects Haklang and Snefrid that could be developed as future tiebacks to the main field.

Conditions in the area include 25-m (82-ft) waves, sub-zero temperatures and a water depth of 1,300 m (4,265 ft), an unprecedented combination for any field development to date offshore Norway.
