GDI orders third newbuild jackup drilling rig

Gulf Drilling Inc. of Qatar has ordered from PPL Shipyard Pte Ltd a newbuild Pacific Class 400 jackup drilling rig for delivery next March.

SINGAPORE –Gulf Drilling Inc. of Qatar has ordered from PPL Shipyard Pte Ltd a newbuild Pacific Class 400 jackup drilling rig for delivery next March.

The rig will accommodate 150 personnel and drill to 30,000 ft (9,144 m) in 400 ft (122 m) of water at a cost of $250 million.

This is GDI’s third newbuild jackup order within the past year.

“We are most familiar with the PPL rig designs and consider them to be very suitable for the requirements of our clients here in Qatar,” said GDI CEO Ibrahim J. Al-Othman.
