HAMBURG, Germany –RWE Dea has proven more gas close to its Zidane 1 discovery in the Norwegian Sea.

Well 6507/7-15 S on theZidane 2 prospect was drilled by the semisub West Alpha in 399 m (1,309 ft) water depth in production license 435, 3.5 km (2.2 mi) from Zidane 1.

The main objective was to prove hydrocarbons in mid-Jurassic (Fangst group) rocks. The secondary aim was to prove hydrocarbons in the early Cretaceous and early Jurassic (Lange and Tilje) formations.

In the event, gas was encountered in a 140-m (459-ft) column in the Fangst group, and hydrocarbon-bearing rocks were also present in the secondary targets.

Early estimates suggest in the range 4-13 bcm (141-459 bcf) recoverable gas. The location is around 15 km (9.3 mi) northwest of the Heidrun production complex.

“The project team is looking forward to analyzing the results and moving our field development project into the next phase,” said Hans-Joachim Polk, managing director RWE Dea Norge.
