BP contracts newbuild ENSCO DS-6 deepwater drillship

BP (NYSE:BP) has contracted the ENSCO DS-6 deepwater drillship for five years at $522,000/day plus cost adjustments.

LONDON –BP (NYSE:BP) has contracted the ENSCO DS-6 deepwater drillship for five years at $522,000/day plus cost adjustments. The agreement also calls for two one-year extension options at a negotiated rate.

ENSCO Plc (NYSE:ESV) recently took delivery of the newbuildDS-6 from Samsung Heavy Industries. The vessel is in Singapore undergoing BP-requested modifications, including its enhanced voluntary drilling standards. Upon completion, the rig will head toward its first drilling assignment.

This is the fourth of five ENSCO rigs of the Samsung DP-3 drillship series. In addition to the DP-3 capacity, theDS-6 has six-ram 15,000 psi BOPs, 2 million lb hook load, 6,000-bbl active fluid system, accommodations for 200 persons, and can be modified to operate in 12,000 ft (3,658 m) water depths. The DS-7 drillship is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2013.
