Apache books drillship for deepwater Kenya well

Apache Kenya has secured the drillship Deepsea Metro 1 to drill the company’s first deepwater well offshore Kenya.

PERTH, Australia – Apache Kenya has secured the drillship Deepsea Metro 1 to drill the company’s first deepwater well offshore Kenya.

Drilling of theMbawa oil prospect in the L8 license could start in 3Q 2012, assuming the rig completes its current contractual obligations.

According to partner Pancontinental Oil & Gas, Mbawa could contain 4.9 Bbbl in placeat the main Tertiary/Cretaceous level. Further potential will also be tested at the deeper Upper Jurassic and shallower Tertiary levels.

Drilling should last 45-60 days, with a planned TD of 3,250 m (10,663 ft) subsea in water depth of 860 m (2,821 ft).
