ABERDEEN, UK – Xcite Energy has commissioned FES International to supply a swivel system for use on the heavy oil Bentley field in the UK northern North Sea.

FES says the fluid swivels will be used for subsea wellheads and to attach flexible risers to prevent contortion between the well and the floating storage and offloading unit.

Bentley is in block 9/3b, 160 km (99 mi) east of the Shetland Islands in 113 m (371 ft) of water. It is currently in apreliminary development phase involving use of a production jackup.

“Our swivel systems have been developed to operate at high pressure and axial loading ranges and can function from 0 to 10,000 psi [689 bar],” said Ian Latimer, technical director at FES International. “All our products offer a multiple sealing system which includes leak detection and can operate with a diverse range of fluids.”
