PERTH, Australia –Apache Corp. has completed the Nanaa 3D seismic survey in L8 offshore Kenya. The survey covered 1,400 sq km (540 sq mi) in the southeast portion of the area and is in addition to the earlier Mbawa 3D survey.

The survey covers the Nanaa and Kozi leads from the Tertiary to the Jurassic plus the Bundi and Tai prospects in the Cretaceous to Upper Jurassic.

Partner Pancontinental says the inverted basinal structure in this part of Lamu basin has combined with a restricted depositional environment between Davie ridge and a faulted rift margin high. It interprets a thick, oil-prone potential source interval. Seismic “flat spots,” AVO anomalies, and natural oil seeps support the generation, charge, trap concepts for the geology.

Data processing and interpretation are expected to be complete by year end. Drilling on Mbawa is planned by 3AQ 2012.

The L8 consortium is operator Apache Corp., 50%; Origin Energy Ltd., 20%; Pancontinental Oil & Gas NL, 15%; and Tullow Kenya BV, 15%.
