CALGARY, Canada – Centrica has agreed to transfer operatorship of the Carna gas discovery in the UK southern North Sea to Ithaca Energy. Under the agreement, Ithaca will raise its interest in the structure from 16% to 32%.
Carna overlaps blocks 43/21b and 43/22c and is adjacent to the ATP-operated Garrow and Kilmar gas fields which serve the Tors complex.
The discovery was made inearly 2009, when vertical well 43/21b-5Z encountered a Carboniferous gas column of over 1,490 ft (454 m) TVD with net pay of 127 ft (39 m) TVD. It tested gas at a gross stabilized rate of 8.8 MMcf/d.
Ithaca and the joint venture partners have agreed a program to accelerate development studies of the Carna discovery, which could lead to submission of a development plan to the UK authorities before the end of this year.
The newly aligned interests are Ithaca Energy (32%), Dyas UK 24%), Centrica (40%), and EWE Energie (4%).
