Fourth successive gas find for BG in deepwater off Tanzania

BG Group/Ophir Energy have discovered gas in the deepwater Jodari structure off southern Tanzania.

READING, UK -- BG Group/Ophir Energy have discovered gas in the deepwater Jodari structure off southern Tanzania.

The Jodari-1 well was drilled in block 1 in 1,150 m (3,773 ft) of water. This was the partner’s fourth successive gas find off Tanzania, and possibly their largest to date. Preliminary evaluation of the well indicates gross recoverable resources in the range of 2.5-4.4 tcf.

This is part of athree-to-four well exploration program, which also includes acquisition of 2,500 sq km (965 sq mi) of 3D seismic data in block 1.

Next up will be the Mzia-1 well, 23 km (14 mi) north of Jodari-1. The previous discoveries wereChaza-1, also in block 1, and Chewa-1 and Pweza-1 in block 4.
