Subsea 7 lands BP Clair Ridge pipe connections

Offshore staff

LUXEMBOURG -- BP has awarded Subsea 7 a $100-million pipelay contract for the Clair Ridge project, west of Shetland in the UK sector.

The development involves the addition of two new, bridge-linked platforms to be located to northeast of the Clair Phase 1 facilities.

Subsea 7’s scope includes project management, engineering, procurement, fabrication, and installation of a 6-km (3.7-mi), 22-in. (56-cm) oil export pipeline and a 14-km (8.7-mi), 6-in. (15-cm) gas export pipeline connected to the new production facilities and existing Clair Phase 1 export systems.

The new pipeline systems will allow production to be transported from Clair Ridge to the Sullom Voe Terminal on the main Shetland island via a dedicated gas export pipeline spur tied into the Clair Phase 1 pipeline. Associated gas will head through the West of Shetland pipeline system via the gas export line.

Subsea 7 will fabricated the 22-in. oil export pipeline bundle at its Wester yard in Wick, northern Scotland. The bundle will be installed using the Controlled Depth Tow method.

The 6-in. gas export pipeline will be fabricated at the company’s Vigra spoolbase. Subsea 7 will also perform tie-ins of integrated subsea towhead structures, field testing, and pre-commissioning activities.

Offshore operations should start in 2013.
