STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has contracted Aker Solutions to upgrade drilling facilities on the Snorre A platform in the Norwegian North Sea. This would allow drilling of new wells from the platform through 2040.
Theupgrade could deliver a further 67 MMbbl of oil from the Snorre field, according to Bente Aleksandersen, Statoil’s head of Operations South in Development and Production Norway. The program, due to start in March, should be completed in 2015.
“We will in the future be seeing more and more of this type of modification in order to extend the lifetime of existing fields,” added Vidar Martin Birkeland, head of Project Procurement.
Aker Solutions’ work scope under the $180-million contract includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning assistance.
The project includes advanced technical solutions in addition to extensive onshore testing on a much larger scale than have previously been performed. The chosen solutions have been developed over many years through extensive studies.
Aker’s drilling technologies engineering team in Kristiansand will handle the drilling scope, assisted by the company’s integration competence center in Bergen. Prefabrication will be performed at Aker Solutions’ yard in Egersund.
