Statoil orders two more drilling rigs from Songa Offshore

Statoil has ordered from Songa Offshore two more purpose-built drilling rigs to work on the Norwegian continental shelf.

STAVANGER, Norway –Statoil has ordered from Songa Offshore two more purpose-built drilling rigs to work on the Norwegian continental shelf. The two category D rigs are a concept developed by Statoil for medium water depths.

The contract value of $1.33 billion per rig has a fixed charter period of eight years with four options of three years each beyond that.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. in South Korea will build the rigs at a fixed price of $570 million per unit, inclusive of optional Statoil upgrades that include Barents Sea winterization and other enhancements. Thedrilling package will be delivered by Aker Solutions.

Delivery of the now four-rig order will begin in 2013.
