OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved Lundin’s request for exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea using the semisub Bredford Dolphin. The rig will drill well 6201/11-3 in production license 519, in a water depth of 382.5 m (1,255 ft). Drilling should take 53 days, depending on whether a discovery results.

Det norske has the go-ahead to drill the Steingeita prospect in PL460, which was issued under Norway’s 2007 Awards in Predefined Areas (APA) process. The location is in the central Norwegian North Sea, 175 km (109 mi) west of Bergen and 31 km (19.3 mi) north of the Heimdal production complex. Water depth is 102 m (334 ft). Steingeita is also 6 km (3.7 mi) north of Det norske’s Storklakken oil discovery. Drilling should start this spring and take around 40 days to complete.
