TEHRAN, Iran – A project to harness associated sweet gas from two oil fields in the Persian Gulf is nearing completion.

National Iranian Offshore Oil Co. is extracting the gas from the Soroush and Norouz fields.

Production will be transferred to Kharg Island via a 200-km (124-mi) pipeline. Some will be used as ethane for local petrochemical plants, and some will be employed on the island for power generation.

The project is part of an Iranian initiative to limit flaring from Persian Gulf fields.
