LONDON – GDF Suez E&P UK has confirmed a high-pressure/high-temperature gas discovery in the Faraday prospect in the UK central North Sea.

The jackup Transocean GSF Galaxy spudded well 30/1a-11 on July 31 last year, and completed the operation on Jan. 15. The well has since been P&A’d at a TD of 18,362 ft (5,597 m).

Results are being evaluated prior to a decision on further appraisal activity.

The company points out that in 2009, it was awarded accolades for drilling of its first HP/HT exploration well in the central North Sea, on the Tesla structure.

Co-venturers in the P.1818 (block 30/1a) license are Maersk, RWE Dea, and JX Nippon Exploration and Production.
