SINGAPORE – Keppel Offshore & Marine Technology Centre (KOMtech) and ConocoPhillips are jointly designing a jackup capable of drilling in Arctic Sea ice regions.

The rig will have dual cantilevers to optimize drilling within a limited operational window. It will be able to operate on a standalone basis for 14 days. The hull, which is designed for towing through ice, will be able to resist impact from multi-year ice floes and ridges, and to withstand a certain level of ice thickness.

Keppel expects the joint design project to be completed by end 2013.
