Chevron starts relief well drilling offshore Nigeria

LAGOS, Nigeria – Chevron Nigeria Ltd. has started to drill a relief well at the Funiwa 1A natural gas well burning offshore Nigeria. Plans are to dement and abandon the well.

The Transocean Baltic is drilling the relief well with approval from Nigerian officials.

The fire began Jan. 16 at the well about 6 mi (10 km) offshore. There is no oil involved in this gas well.
