Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has granted Statoil approval to use the semisubAker Barents to permanently plug an exploration well in the Barents Sea.

Well 7222/11-1 was temporarily plugged in 2008. The planned program involves removing the trawler protection from the wellhead, confirming the cement height in the well, and finally cutting the wellhead away.

The four-day operation will star during the first half of March. Water depth at the location is 357 m (1,171 ft) - the well is 120 km (74.6 mi) from Ingøy Island in Finnmark County.
