ABERDEEN, UK – Hess has contracted Romar International for decommissioning services for up to 30 wells over the next four years.

By 2016, Hess aims to achieve full decommissioning and abandonment of its fields on the UK continental shelf.

Romar’s will provide swarf recovery equipment to collect metal cuttings and associated support, in the form of onshore and offshore personnel and project management.

The company’s magnetic separation products are designed to remove large quantities of swarf and metal particles from fluid systems. This lessens the need for mechanical or manned intervention, also reducing the system operators’ exposure to swarf and other potentially hazardous chemicals.

Recently Romar introduced new swarf handling technology, the SS3000, which can process 2 metric tons/hr (2.2 tons/hr) of metal debris from downhole via a system claimed to offer a greater magnetic field efficiency, reduced footprint and reduced weight.
