OGX finds gas in shallow water Santos basin offshore Brazil

OGX Petróleo e Gás Participações S.A. has found hydrocarbons in well 1-OGX-63-SPS in block BM-S-57 in shallow water offshore Brazil’s Santos basin.

A 1,000-m (3,281-ft) hydrocarbon column of was encountered in Albian reservoirs with about 110 m (361 ft) of net pay. Drilling is still in progress and has reached the Aptian section. A gas kick, which was controlled, indicated the find.

The OGX-63 well, known as Fortaleza, is 102 km (63 mi) off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro at a water depth of approximately 155 m (509 ft).

The Ocean Quest rig initiated drilling activities on Oct. 08, 2011.
