Operators are increasingly looking to offshore Asia for opportunities to supply the world’s energy demand, and several new projects are being developed in the region. Total capital expenditures in the region are expected to exceed $90 billion during 2011-2015, a 55% increase from the previous five-year period, according to Infield Systems Ltd.

Malaysia, the site of Offshore Asia 2012, requires the highest percentage share of the estimated capex allocated to all major offshore producing nations in the region. To help meet demand, the Malaysian government is opening up new investment opportunities to enhance output from existing oil and natural gas fields and to advance exploration in deepwater areas offshore Sarawak and Sabah. The target is to increase aggregate production capacity by 5% per year through 2020.

For all these reasons, Offshore Asia is proud to return to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Feb. 21-23, 2012, at the state-of-the-art KLCC Convention Centre. In 2010, the event drew a record 5,025 attendees from 63 countries.

The Offshore Asia Conference and Exhibition provides an annual forum that addresses new technologies, regional trends and challenges, and the opportunity to see the latest in offshore equipment, products, and services.

With the support and endorsements of the Geological Society of Malaysia, the Sabah Oil & Gas Contractors Association, and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp., the conference provides a unique networking opportunity for attendees to share technology and address issues with experts in their respective fields.

The open plenary session on Wednesday Feb. 22 will feature a welcome and introduction by David Paganie, conference director, and chief editor ofOffshore. Chen Kah Seong, head, Petroleum Engineering Division, Petronas Development & Production, will deliver the keynote address.

Will Rowley of the Acteon Group will present an upstream outlook: Examination of Key Market Drivers, Influences and Trends; and Atsunori Takeuchi, chief representative of Asia Pacific Regional Office for Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., will provide an LNG outlook.

For the seventh edition, the conference technical program will consist of an exploration and production technology track, and an LNG track.
