Urca orders semisubmersible drilling rig to work offshore Brazil

SINGAPORE – Urca Drilling BV has contracted Fernvale Pte Ltd to design and construct a semisubmersible drilling rig for $809 million. Fernvale is a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. and Urca Drilling is a subsidiary of Sete Brazil Participações SA.

The DSSTM 38E design, enhanced to work offshore Brazil, Africa, and Gulf of Mexico, is scheduled to work offshore Brazil upon delivery in 4Q 2015.

The DSSTM 38E is rated to drill to 10,000 m (32,898 ft) below the rotary table in 3,000 m (9.842 ft) water depth. It is 108 m (354 ft) in overall length, with a main deck size of 73 m by 73 m (240 ft by 240 ft). Its operational displacement is approximately 45,000 metric tonnes (49,604 tons).

The DSSTM 38E has accommodation facilities to house up to 160 personnel. It has both vertical and horizontal riser storage. The vessel is designed to stay in position via eight azimuthing thrusters and the configurations comply with the American Bureau of Shipping DPS-3 requirements.
