Statoil gets permit to drill second northern wildcat

Statoil Petroleum AS has received a Norwegian Petroleum Directorate permit to drill well 7220/7-1 in production license 532.

STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil Petroleum AS has received a Norwegian Petroleum Directorate permit to drill well 7220/7-1 in production license 532. It will use the semisubmersible Aker Barents drilling rig. The well will be 100 km (62 mi) northwest of Snøhvit field and will be the second wildcat in the license. The area includes blocks 7219/9, 7220/4, 7220/5, 7220/7, and 7220/8. Statoil is the operator with a 50% ownership interest. The other licensees are Eni Norway AS with 30% and Petoro AS with 20%.
