Offshore staff

SKELMERSDALE, UK – SMD has contracted Trelleborg Offshore for syntactic foam buoyancy modules for 20 new work-class ROVs.

All will be deployed for subsea intervention on oil and gas fields offshore Brazil.

SMD is providing the ‘QX Ultra’ WROVs for the Subsea 7 division.

Trelleborg’s buoyancy modules are designed to work in water depths ranging from 1,500-3,000 m (4,921-9,842 ft). They consist of a syntactic foam composite core coated in polyurethane (PU).

To ensure the modules retain their structural integrity in deepwater, a ‘hard shell’ is incorporated into the outer layer of the PU elastomer skin.

The specialist material provides for safer operations through increased uplift, stability and buoyancy, Trelleborg claims.
