RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras has discovered more oil in well 4-VD-18-RJS the Marlin Complex in the Campos basin, offshore Brazil.

Well 4-VD-18-RJS, designated Tucura, was drilled in 523 m (1,716 ft) water depth, 3 km (1.8 mi) from the Marlin field, 2.3 km (1.4 mi) from the P-20 platform, and 98 km (61 mi) offshore of Rio de Janeiro State.

The discovery, within the framework of the Varredura project, underlines remaining oil potential in areas previously considered mature in terms of exploration and production.

Confirmation of the find was provided by sampling postsalt rock in a reservoir at a subsurface depth of 2,694 m (8,838 ft). Preliminary analysis suggests the oil quality is similar to adjacent fields Marlin and Voador, i.e. 20° API.

Petrobras’ future program under the assessment plan includes drilling a horizontal production well.
