STOCKHOLM, Sweden – PA Resources (PAR) has completed its side track of the Lille John discovery well in license 12/06 in the Danish North Sea.

The side track did reach its Chalk target TD of 1,307 m (4,288 ft) encountering weak hydrocarbon indications, but no effective reservoir.

However, the side track had better results penetrating Miocene sandstones 180 m (590 ft) away from the Miocene interval found to be oil-bearing in the initial Lille John well in October. These sandstones were oil-bearing at a depth of 930 m (3,051 ft) below mean sea level, with improved reservoir quality compared to the original well which yielded 34-35° API oil.

PAR did not attempt to drill the secondary Mid-Jurassic target, and the well is now being P&A’d.

Lille John is 17 km (10.6 mi) south of the producing Gorm field and 8 km (5 mi) from PAR’s Broder Tuck gas and condensate discovery made in July.

The 12/06 license partners will formally declare both Broder Tuck and Lille John as discoveries, triggering a further technical and commercial evaluation process, which allows a request for a license extension to be submitted.

They also plan a thorough re-evaluation of the nearby Miocene exploration prospectivity and the remaining Chalk and mid-Jurassic potential in the Lille John, based on the new well results and reprocessed 3D data.

Bo Askvik, president and CEO, said: “The side track at Lille John has shown improved reservoir quality in the Miocene sandstone which gives us further encouragement that the Miocene seismic anomaly reflects yet better reservoir. Additional studies will be conducted to progress the further exploration of the Lille John area and appraisal of the exciting Miocene discovery, made at a reservoir level which has not been widely explored in Denmark.”
