Operations have started on the latest appraisal well 16/5-2S on the Avaldsnes discovery in the Norwegian North Sea.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Operations have started on the latest appraisal well 16/5-2S on the Avaldsnes discovery in the Norwegian North Sea.

The semisub Bredford Dolphin is drilling well 16/5-2S on license PL501 to a planned TVD of 2,150 m (7,054 ft) below mean sea level. Drilling should last around 40 days.

According to operator Lundin Petroleum, further wells will follow on Avaldsnes during 2012.

Previously the company estimated recoverable resources in the range 800 MM - 1.8 Bbbl of oil.

Lundin’s partners in the well are Statoil Petroleum and Maersk Oil Norway.
