HOUSTON – The Bua Ban North A-09 appraisal well in the Gulf of Thailand is a success, says Coastal Energy Co.
The well was drilled to TVD of 4,625 ft (1,410 m) and encountered 42 ft (13 m) of net pay in Lower Miocene sand with 28% average porosity. The well is about 1 mi north of the A-08 well and confirms the connection between Bua Ban A and Bua Ban B fields.
With this confirmation well, Coastal says it has the data necessary to being construction of a permanent production facility in between the two fields. A MOPU is expected at Bua Ban North A later this week.
The company will now spud the A-10 well, which is a horizontal well in the western fault block.
"The results of the A-09 well provide us with final confirmation that the two fields are in communication on the western side of the structural closure and the entire Bua Ban North area is one hydrocarbon accumulation covering over 6,000 a (24¼ sq km),” said Randy Bartley, president and CEO of Coastal Energy. “We now plan to drill a horizontal well to test the productivity of the Lower Micoene from a lateral.
“Horizontal wells are expected to help maximize production and recovery factors. The results of the horizontal well will help us evaluate future development at Bua Ban North A & B.”
