CALGARY, Canada – Husky Energy has achieved first production from a two-well pilot program on the West White Rose field offshore eastern Canada.

The program is designed to provide additional information in order to refine a full development plan for the West White Rose field.

According to partner Suncor Energy, completion of the first of the two pilot wells occurred this summer, with water injection support expected to come onstream later this year.

At Husky’s North Amethyst satellite development in the same region, production has reached the projected design target of 37,000 b/d of oil. Three production wells and three water injector wells are now onstream.

More recently, Husky began drilling an exploration well to test the Fiddlehead prospect, south of the Terra Nova field offshore Newfoundland.

Suncor, which operated Terra Nova, has deferred a planned extended dockside maintenance program for the FPSO in order to resolve hydrogen sulfide (H2S) issues.

The field is currently shut down for maintenance.
