Cairn adds to Barracuda discovery offshore Sri Lanka

GURGAON, IndiaCairn Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. has notified the government of Sri Lanka of a gas discovery at well CLPL-Barracuda-1G/1 in block SL 2007-01-001 of the Mannar basin.

The well was drilled to TD of 4,741m (15,554 ft) in water depth of 1,509 m (4,951 ft) and encountered 24 m (789 ft) of hydrocarbon bearing sandstone, said Cairn.

This is the second well is 38 km (924 mi) west of the CLPL-Dorado-91H/1z discovery well and approximately 68 km (42 mi) from the Sri Lanka coast.
