OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has authorized BP Norge to use an onshore control room at Forus near Stavanger, Norway, for offshore operations on the Valhall field in the North Sea.

The new control room and associated systems is designed to operate all the wells at the Valhall center, Flanke Sør, Flanke Nord, and Hod.

Valhall also has one offshore control room, but together the two centers will effectively function as one control room, although with different roles and responsibilities.

Wells will be controlled from the onshore base, which will also provide operations support and condition control. Other roles and responsibilities will remain in the control room at Valhall.

The change is a part of the upgrade designed to extend Valhall’s lifespan through 2050.
