ABERDEEN, UK – Britain’s National Grid has contracted Wood Group Kenny for studies connected to development options for offshore storage of carbon dioxide (CO2).
National Grid is investigating the possibility of transporting and injecting CO2 into a prospective offshore saline aquifer storage location in the UK southern North Sea.
Wood Group Kenny and sister company Wood Group Mustang will manage the design work as a combined project team.
The scope for Wood Group Kenny covers concept design, scheduling and cost estimation for offshore pipeline and subsea facilities. These could include a trunkline from a landfall site to the offshore injection facilities, subsea structures, cables and umbilicals, and the trunkline shore approach and crossing.
The company will also undertake flow assurance modeling from the landfall to the aquifer sand face. Wood Group Mustang will perform concept design of the offshore surface facilities including the jacket and topsides infrastructure.
Russell Cooper, National Grid Carbon, CCS Technical Lead said "This project is one of a number we are considering in our quest to assist the UK Government to meet its obligation to cut carbon emissions by 20% by 2020.”
