LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands – Fugro OSAE has won a €2.3 million ($3.2 million) hydrographic survey contract in the far north of the Norwegian offshore sector.
The contract was awarded by the Norwegian Hydrographic Service as part of Norway’s MAREANO project and will cover more than12,000 sq km (4,633 sq mi) in the Barents Sea.
MAREANO is designed to improve knowledge of seabed conditions and biodiversity along the northern Norwegian coast, with the aim of assisting resource management for fishing and oil and gas exploitation.
Acquisition of detailed and accurate bathymetry is seen as an important first step in the collection of seafloor data.
Fugro OSAE’s survey area is 200 km (124 mi) offshore, close to the Russian maritime border, in water depths of up to 300 m (984 ft).
The program will be performed early next year by the survey vessel Victor Hensen which is equipped with a new, high resolution Kongsberg EM2040 multibeam echo sounder.
Processing will take place onboard the vessel and at Fugro OSAE’s processing center in Bremen, northern Germany.
Previously Fugro OSAE conducted surveys for the MAREANO project in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010.
