Eni finds second gas horizon offshore Mozambique

MILAN, Italy – The gas discovery at Mamba South 1, Area 4, offshore Mozambique is about 50% larger than initially announced, says Eni.

In drilling the discovery well deeper, the company encountered a separate Eocene sand of about 90 m (295 ft) in width with a potential of 7.5 tcf of gas.

Eni now is drilling the well to a TD of 5,000 m (16,404 ft). Following that, plans are to drill a second well, Mamba North 1, about 22 km (13.5 mi) north.

Eni is the operator of Offshore Area 4 with a 70% participating interest. Co-owners are Galp Energia (10%), KOGAS (10%), and ENH (10%, carried through the exploration phase).
