GODALMING, UKHurricane Exploration has re-entered the suspended Whirlwind exploration well west of Shetland, using the semisub WilPhoenix.

Well 201/21a-5 was first drilled last fall, with oil shows in the drill cuttings and side wall cores, but weather constraints prevented testing at the time.

AGR Petroleum Services is providing well management for the new program. This aims to establish whether the reservoir has commercial flow, and to characterize the reservoir fluid type.

A drillstem test will be run, testing the limestone and basement interval, and a production logging tool will be deployed to identify zones of fluid ingress into the wellbore.

Testing should take around 40 days to complete.
