BUDE, UK – Surestream Petroleum has contracted WGP Exploration to convert a vessel for 2D acquisition on Lake Tanganyika in Burundi, Africa.

WGP will convert the Tanganyika Explorer, an ex-UN fisheries vessel originally designed for environmental and pelagic zone studies. It will be upgraded to meet all accepted marine and geophysical operating standards and requirements.

The program will include vessel stability works and seismic outfitting, the aim being to deliver a vessel capable of acquiring 2D reflection seismic with a 3,000-m streamer and a 500 cu.in source array.

Procurement started last month and first acquisition is targeted for the first half of 2012.

Lake Tanganyika is the longest fresh water lake in the world and the second deepest after Lake Baikal in Russia.
