MELBOURNE, Australia – Shell is planning a small 2D marine seismic survey off Australia’s North West Cape. Subject to approvals, the survey should last around 12 days and will be performed between mid-November and end-March, to avoid the local humpback whale migration.

At its closest point to shore the survey will be around 25 km (15.5 mi) from Ningaloo Reef. It will be outside a 10-km (6.2-mi) buffer zone of the Ningaloo World Heritage Area.

This is the final work commitment for the current term of permit WA-385-P.

In July 2011 Shell received environmental approval to drill the Palta-1 gas exploration well in adjacent permit WA-384.
