Norwegian contractor to recycle redundant North Sea buoy

DeepOcean has contracted AF Gruppen to remove the loading buoy from the Statfjord C complex in the Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, Norway – DeepOcean has contracted AF Gruppen to remove the loading buoy from the Statfjord C complex in the Norwegian North Sea.

AF’s scope includes planning, engineering and preparation offshore, bringing the buoy onshore, and recycling. DeepOcean has overall responsibility for the program, including implementing the subsea work and towing the buoy from Statfjord to the Environmental Base Vats at Haugesund on Norway’s west coast for decommissioning.

The loading buoy was installed in 1984, and is 181 m (594 ft) long and weighs 8,000 metric tons (8,818 tons), including ballast.

The value of the contract to AFs part of the contract is $9.1 million. The company will bring the buoy onshore and start recycling during summer/fall 2012.
