BYGNES, Norway – Norwegian operators are investigating development of a pipeline system to transport gas from fields in the Barents Sea.
“Our task is to provide a sound base for making good technical and economical decisions for the companies that want their gas exported to the market,” said Thor Otto Lohne, director of Business Development and Finance at Gassco, which is responsible for development of Norway’s offshore gas infrastructure.
“We are still in an early phase of the study and both technical solutions and volumes are still unsecure,” he added.
Requirements are being based on analyses of both proven and potential resources in Norway’s northern areas.
Among the options under review is a pipeline based on volumes in Snøhvit, the only gas field currently in production in the Barents Sea.
Gassco also plans to study the potential of a pipeline from the north in 2012, results of which will be presented to Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
